The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) is the national industry association representing Canada’s home, car and business insurers. Its member companies make up the vast majority of Canada’s highly competitive property and casualty (P&C) insurance market. As an advocate for private P&C insurers in Canada, IBC collaborates with governments, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders to support a competitive environment for the P&C insurance industry to continue to help protect Canadians from the risks of today and tomorrow.
Mandate
Contribute to IBC’s visibility and outreach by serving as the subject-matter expert for property and casualty (P&C) insurance in Quebec. Deliver high-quality and consistent technical insurance information to the public, members and industry partners while taking an active role in IBC’s awareness, guidance and response initiatives during major crises (participation in CAMP).
Required knowledge and expertise
- In-depth knowledge of P&C insurance in Quebec, particularly home, civil liability and business insurance, with a solid grasp of auto insurance.
- Proficiency in standard home and auto insurance policy forms used in Quebec.
- In-depth knowledge of:
o IBC’s mandate and mission; and
o the agreements IBC administers or facilitates, among them the agreements governing the Quebec Personal Property Forms, the Home Insurance Access Agreement, the Direct Compensation Agreement and auto insurance access mechanisms.
- Excellent command of French and English, both spoken and written.
- Ability to analyze, interpret and resolve complex technical P&C insurance issues.
- Ability to summarize, standardize and popularize technical information to ensure consistent understanding across diverse audiences.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to speak to groups, facilitate training sessions and act as a spokesperson on technical topics.
- Ability to draft high-quality advisories, guides, reference materials and informational documents.
- Ability to identify emerging issues, industry trends and potential impacts on insurers and consumers.
- Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with insurers, industry partners and other stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and good judgment.
- Continuous learning mindset and drive to stay abreast of market, product and regulatory developments.

Key responsibilities
- Act as a P&C insurance expert council for IBC, its members and the public.
- Review all technical P&C content IBC publishes in Quebec to ensure consistency, quality and accuracy.
- Participate in IBC’s awareness, training and outreach activities.
- Represent IBC with members, partners and various industry bodies.
- Take part in Community Assistance Mobile Pavilion (CAMP) operations to help residents during major disasters, emergencies and catastrophes.
- Keep the Insurance Information Centre (IIC) operating at peak readiness.
- Guide and mentor IIC agents to uphold consistency, accuracy and relevance across all inquiries.
